Healthy and Happy Living at Home

Chinese Health Forum

On December 3, 2016, iCON held a free Chinese Health Forum: Healthy and Happy Living at Home at the Peretz Centre in Vancouver. With over 300 people in attendance, and more than 80 people participating via webcast, the Forum attracted a mix of seniors and caregivers looking for tips and advice for living healthily at home and accessing community and government services for seniors.

Prior to the start of the Forum, attendees had the opportunity to interact with more than 15 community organizations who provided information, resources and health screenings. Participants received nutrition, cognitive, and falls risk assessments; learned about local services and made connections with support programs.

The Forum was delivered in Cantonese and interpreted into English and Mandarin, making it available to a wide audience. MLAs Dr. Moira Stilwell and Richard Lee opened the event, which included contributions from nine health experts addressing core aspects of senior’s health. Topics included early detection of chronic diseases, prevention of falls, improving diet and sleep, mental wellness, how to access community services and resources, and caregiver strategies for supporting aging family members while maintaining their own health and wellness.

Attendees took part in interactive polling and a Question and Answer session with the panel.  They learned how to address senior’s health concerns and gathered information to navigate health programs in community and government based health services.

If you missed the Forum, it’s available to watch online in three languages! Click on a language below to go directly to the webcast.

iCON would like to thank the students, medical trainees, and community volunteers who all came together to help and support the day’s events in support of their community. We also appreciate the many community partners who supported this event.
